Remnants can be quite daunting to begin with when you spawn on a random location and don’t know the basics. You will be dropped into a random location with a rock, torch and a few bandages. Your immediate priorities are to get resources for clothing and tools, get a map and find your location, and set up a basic shelter.
You will want to look for the following resources whilst also looking out for a road which you can follow;
- Green Wood
- Wood
- Stone
- Plant Fiber
Green Wood
Green wood is gathered by using your rock on any tree with leaves, you’ll need to collect a lot of this as you progress. You probably want to gather about 50 to start off. Once you craft a hatchet you’ll gather wood more quickly.
Wood
Wood is distinct from Green Wood and mainly used in the game as a separate building material. You gather wood from dead trees with no leaves, or from woodpiles scattered around the map.
Stone
Stone is gathered from ore deposits and other boulders throughout the map. Use your rock to gather stone, you’ll gather these quicker once you craft a pickaxe.
Plant Fiber
Plant fiber is an important starting resource and can be very confusing to begin with. Plants that give fiber differ for three different zones, here’s what to look for;
These plants also give insects which are useful to keep hunger and hydration whilst looking for better food and water resources.
The type of plant fibers that you see give you a hint as to roughly where you are on the island if you’ve not got a map.
